All Eyes on the Elkhorn and Platte River Junction for Ice Jams

Ice Jams along the Platte River

First responders are heading back up to where the Platte and Elkhorn rivers meet in northwest Sarpy County where Ice Jams caused overflows and evacuations Wednesday. Sarpy County Sheriff's Lt. Russ Zeeb took time to tell KFOR news it was a little nerve wrecking to watch the water breach the shoreline. "We evacuated one elderly couple yesterday afternoon, who had some medical conditions. We were able to get them out as the water came up and over their yard. But most of the cabins up there are seasonal, so they were in good shape," says Sarpy County Sheriff's Lt. Russ Zeeb. Lt. Zeeb, says a lot of busy work is ahead of him and his team today as they continue to monitor, ice flows, river levels and bridges for any further threats.
