Armon Dixon is guilty. The jury reached its verdict soon after closing arguments were made. On March 21st of last year, Dixon raped a Casey's convenience store clerk and robbed the store. He's also accused of raping another woman in her Lincoln apartment and holding her hostage for several hours on April 26th. That case will be heard in a different trial.
Police also call him a prime suspect in a rape at Hot Rayz Tanning on March 2nd. The jury found Armon Dixon guilty of raping a Casey's general store clerk and robbing the store. Now people in Havelock are finally breathing a sigh of relief.
Just after Armon Dixon was arrested last May his victim told us this. "He did something cruel and I think he needs to pay the crime and punishment for it." Now, he will. It took a jury just two hours to unanimously find Dixon guilty, of both raping the Casey's General Store clerk and robbing the store near 56th and Superior, last March.
Inside the courtroom Dixon did not react as the verdict was read. His victim sat right in front of me, she was crying with friends and family by her side. Dixon's mother, dropped her head to her lap, also in tears, before quickly leaving the courtroom. In the Havelock area near where the Casey's attack occurred, Barb Barnhill, owner of the Baja salon and body works, is glad the trial is over. "Thank God he's off the streets there's going to be a big sigh of relief to know that we can now move around in Havelock easily because he's not put away," Barnhill said.
Dixon faces at least 25 years in prison for the rape and up to 50 years for the robbery. Barnhill's thoughts on what he should get? "life never to be out I don't think he deserves to be out they say they could rehab him but it would only give him a chance to do it again."
After the verdict was read today, nobody on either side of the case wanted to comment on camera.
Dixon is scheduled to be sentenced for the Casey's attack on May 3. In a separate case, he will also face trial on charges that he raped a woman in her apartment and held her hostage for several hours. No word when that trial will begin.
