LINCOLN -- Twenty-four teams will converge on Lincoln this weekend for the 34th annual Lincoln Legion Baseball Coaches Mike Peterson Tournament. Pool play is set to start Thursday afternoon and run through Sunday at four different fields. Ten Lincoln area Senior Legion baseball teams, along with 14 others from across Nebraska and as far away as Blue Springs, Missouri and Spring Lake, Minnesota will compete in pool play, with the tournament win-loss record to determine who will play in the championship game on Sunday, along with 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th place. Games start at 2:30pm Thursday at Sherman, Den Hartog and Densmore Fields. The championship game of the Peterson Tournament will be at 5 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Sherman Field. It was renamed the Mike Peterson Tournament in 1997, after the former player and head coach, who died unexpectedly in 1996 at the age of 27.
