LINCOLN -- The author of a book about child killer John Joubert is in a court battle with the Nebraska Department of Corrections, trying to force them to release disturbing drawings from the convicted killer. Mark Pettit worked as a news anchor for Omaha TV station KMTV in the 1980s and later wrote a book about Joubert. He had a letter sent to him by Joubert, asking to have a mental health expert analyze the drawings. Pettit's lawsuit seeks to force the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services to release the drawings, which has refused to do so citing confidentiality laws. Joubert was executed in the state's electric chair in 1996 for killing 13-year-old Danny Joe Eberle of Bellevue and 12-year-old Christopher Walden of Papillion in 1983. The case is being looked at by a Lancaster County judge.
