South Lincoln Explosion Causes Burns to Worker, Damage to Home

Heavy damage was done to a south Lincoln home by fire today.

Neighbors reported hearing an explosion and glass breaking, just before noon, then saw smoke coming from the windows at 4401 Neumann Lane. The house was being renovated for new owners.

Fire inspector Ken Hilger says one of the workmen was in the basement applying a combination of lacquer and stain while the pilot light to the water heater was on. One of three workmen inside suffered burns and was taken to a hospital.

The fire damaged the basement and both upper levels, blowing out windows on three sides. The explosion caused about $80,000 in damage, accorded to Hilger.

The explosion from the basement of 4401 Neumann Lane busted open upstairs windows on three walls, caused other damage to the home, as well as burns to the right side of one of the on-site workers. Photo by Charlie Brogan for KFOR News.
