Stolen Tortoise Returned to Lincoln Children's Zoo
A tortoise that presumably escaped from the Lincoln Children's Zoo was actually stolen, but has returned to the zoo safe and sound. Lincoln Police Sgt. Jeri Roeder says they were tipped by someone claiming that a 25-year-old man apparently stole the red-footed tortoise named "Captain Hook" from the zoo last year. Some follow up work tracked down the tortoise and the eventual arrest of Michael Sullivan of Lincoln. Sgt. Roeder says Sullivan apparently stole Captain Hook and gave it to his girlfriend as a gift. Sullivan was arrested for burglary and theft. Zoo officials thought the tortoise may have simply escaped.
Pictured is a red-footed tortoise, though not Captain Hook.
