Severe Weather Claims Capitol's Falcon Chicks

(6-5-14) Tuesday's severe weather appears to have taken the lives of two Peregrine falcon chicks nesting atop the state Capitol building.  The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission provides live streaming video of the nest box, and many falcon watchers woke Wednesday to find it empty.  The body of one chick was found on the 2nd floor roof. The other was found on the ground.  Joel Jorgensen, Game and Parks' non-game bird program manager says it appears the chicks were simply blown out of the nest box by the severe weather. The chicks hatched this month and were set to be given check-ups and identification bands on Friday, June 6.
