Research Prompts Water Birth Suspension, Ralliers at St. Elizabeth

Saint Elizabeth Regional Medical Center is temporarily suspending water births after an opinion came from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists said underwater deliveries have no proven benefits to women or babies and may pose a health risk.  Dozens of people rallied outside the hospital Wednesday to show how important the option of water births is to the community.  Organizers of the rally have gathered more than 1,000 signatures from Nebraska residents and 800 from people in other states and even other countries on petitions urging Saint Elizabeth to stand up for the rights of women in the delivery room.  Saint Elizabeth says a team of nurses is researching the matter and look to bring back water births by July.
