Neb. Congressional Candidate Favors On-Base Armed Soldiers

(4-2-14) One of Nebraska's congressional candidates came out in favor of allowing soldiers to carry weapons on military bases.  Republican Tom Brewer, who recently retired as a colonel, said deaths like the ones Wednesday at Fort Hood Texas could be minimized if soldiers were allowed to use their training to defend themselves. Brewer is challenging incumbent Adrian Smith for Nebraska’s Third District seat in congress. According to Department of Defense rules, soldiers on all military installations, including Fort Hood, are not armed while on post, and only law enforcement and security personnel are allowed to have weapons on post.
