LINCOLN -- Paramedics with Lincoln Fire and Rescue will not have to worry about putting more stress on their bodies with the installation of a new hydraulic gurney inside two ambulances in their fleet. Division Fire Chief Roger Bonin says the new Stryker Power Load cot system can help lift patients weighing up to 700 pounds into an ambulance. He said on Thursday EMTs and firefighters will greatly benefit from this new equipment by not getting hurt as much while putting patients into an ambulance. A third ambulance is scheduled to have the new system installed in the next three months. Total cost for one of these cot systems is around $25,000. Money for this new device came from FEMA's Metropolitan Medical Response System.
