LINCOLN -- Lincoln Christian's high powered offense was slow to start, but got warmed up in the second quarter and took off.
The Crusaders (7-1) got four touchdowns from senior receiver Leighton Chicoine and racked up a team total of 504 yards of offense to earn a 49-28 victory over Falls City in a high school football game Thursday night at Lincoln High's Beechner Athletic Complex.
Chicoine's first touchdown catch from 38-yards came with 11:02 left in the second quarter that tied the game at 6. Falls City's Brenden Heckenlively scored the Tigers' second touchdown later in the quarter for a 14-6 lead. Christian rallied with two more touchdown passes from Logan Power to Chicoine that gave the Crusaders a 18-14 halftime lead.
Christian didn't let up on the gas-peddle. Power found receiver Noah Free on a six yard scoring pass and completed the two-point conversion, then running back Eli Stewart scored on a two-yard run for a 34-14 third quarter lead.
Falls City (5-3) countered with a 30-yard touchdown run from Mitch Harling that kept the Tigers within reach at 34-20. Harling led Falls City with 26 carries for 155 yards rushing and threw for 93 yards.
Power sealed the win for Christian in the fourth quarter with a 20-yard touchdown run and Chicoine had a 12-yard scoring run for a 49-20 lead. Falls City added another late score with Reese Hogue making a 17-yard touchdown catch with 1:24 to play.
The Tigers finished with 339 yards of offense. Penalties were an issue for Falls City, ten of them for 91 yards.
Power threw 12 of 18 passes for 209 yards and four touchdowns. The Crusaders had more reason to celebrate, as head coach Matt Farup earned his 100th victory as Christian's head coach. The Crusaders now await to see where they are seeded in the Class C1 playoffs, starting Halloween night.
