ASHLAND -- The State Patrol this morning (Tuesday) is investigating a rollover crash on I-80 near the Platte River bridge. Around 9 last night, an eastbound car hit the bridge abutment, then a culvert, flipping over, landing on the roof. The driver called 9-1-1, thinking the car was in the river. Troopers combed the Horseshoe Lake area, but couldn't find a thing. Burlington Northern Sante Fe trains were stopped because tracks run under the bridge along the west side of the river. Ashland Police joined in the search, finally noticing headlights from the overturned car in the ditch. Eastbound lanes of I-80 were closed while a helicopter transported the driver to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha with injuries described as life threatening.
