HS FOOTBALL: East's Offense Runs Past Northeast

LINCOLN -- It didn't take long for Lincoln East's offense to score and dictate the first half.

The Spartans used a second down and five pass play on their first drive from quarterback Greg Dittman to receiver RJ Dennis for a 69-yard touchdown reception before winning 37-0 over Lincoln Northeast on Thursday night at Seacrest Field.

East (4-1) continued to spoil the Rockets Homecoming night, adding another touchdown on 34-yard run from Dittman that extended the early lead to 14-0.

Running back Mason Tyrell then tacked on a 1-yard scoring run to end the Spartans' 80-yard drive with 11:15 left before halftime for a 21-0 advantage.  Momentum was on their side the rest of the half.

Northeast (1-4) was in punt formation on fourth down deep in their own territory, when a high sap went over the head of punter Matt Hellbusch and out of the end zone for a safety.  The next East drive, back up senior quarterback Shane Watteyne found receiver Bryan Reimers on a 24-yard touchdown pass and both hooked up again with 33 seconds left before halftime for the game's final score.

Northeast couldn't overcome the deficit in the second half, facing continuous game clock via the 35-point margin rule.
