WELD COUNTY, Colo. -- There is talk in northeastern Colorado and some parts of far southwest Nebraska that the time has come to secede and form a new state. It all stems from unrest in northeastern Colorado. Saying it's not a stunt, one Colorado county commissioner says peoples' needs in this area have been undervalued. A CBS report mentioned several Nebraska counties were also interested in the measure, but specific counties were not listed. Our television partner 10/11 NEWS tried contacting Governor Dave Heineman and 3rd District Republican Congressman Adrian Smith, but the governor's office hadn't heard about the story and Representative Smith wasn't available for comment. Congress would have to approve any new statehood.
