LINCOLN -- It may feel like winter, but we're now in a time of the year where your attention focuses on being prepared at a moment's notice. As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, the National Weather Service will conduct a test TORNADO WATCH at 10am Wednesday, followed by a test TORNADO WARNING at 10:10am. Meteorologist Josh Boustead tells KFOR News it's the perfect time to rehearse where you need to go to take shelter. One place to go at home is a basement and if you don't have one, an interior room away from windows and glass doors. At work, he says get to the lowest floor possible. If you're out in your vehicle, Boustead says get out of it and get as low as possible, such as a ditch or ravine. Another thing to have is a safety kit, which includes a flashlight, battery powered radio tuned to KFOR 1240, along with first aid, non-perishable and water. One good reminder, have your shoes on when you head to shelter because of glass and debris.
