Research Shows Underprivileged Children Have Low Survival Expectations

LINCOLN -- It matters where your kids grow up. Researchers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Bowling Green State University found that children living in underprivileged neighborhoods and being exposed to violence have less hope than other kids. About 15% of children don't expect to live to the age of 35. Other reasons for low survival expectations include poor mental and physical health, limited access to health care and being a member of a minority group.
