(LAS VEGAS) -- A rolling gun battle on the Las Vegas strip between the occupants of a Maserati and SUV Thursday morning caused a multi-car accident and explosion that left three people dead.
Police said the gunfire broke out between the two cars as they drove north on Las Vegas Boulevard in front of Bally's Hotel and Casino around 4:30 a.m. They do not yet know why the people in the cars were shooting at one another, Las Vegas police Sgt. John Sheahan said Thursday morning.
Both cars blew through a red light at an intersection, hitting multiple cars, and the Maserati swerved into a taxi causing it to burst into flames, Sheahan said.
The driver of the Maserati, along with two passengers of the taxi, have all been pronounced dead, he said.
A passenger from the Maserati was wounded and is being treated at University Medical Center, Sheahan said.
At least three other cars were struck by the out-of-control Maserati and at least two individuals inside those cars were injured and are also being treated at UMC.
Police are scouring surveillance video from the area to try and determine the SUV and its driver, which left the scene of the shooting.
