Dog Unharmed After Storm Drain Fall In Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - Officials in Omaha say a partially blind and deaf dog was unharmed from a fall into a neighborhood storm drain.
The Omaha World-Herald says the 14-year-old Shih Tzu named Tippy fell into the storm sewer opening Tuesday morning during a walk.
The 15-pound dog landed about five feet below street level and began traveling along the 24-inch sewer pipe.
Utility crew members recovered Tippy after lifting several manhole covers and spotting him. Officials estimate the dog wandered 300 to 400 feet.
Tippy's owner says the dog probably couldn't see the opening because of surrounding snow. He says the dog has cataracts and is half deaf.
