Not Enough Breakfasts For Federal Funding

Nebraska is missing out on more than $9 million in federal funding because fewer than 40% of students eligible for breakfast at school are participating in the program. 3,600 more students ate breakfast at school in 2011-2012, but, Nebraska still ranks 49th out of all states and the District of Columbia in percentage of eligible children getting breakfast at school. Nebraska would get that $9 million in federal money if 70% of eligible children participated. New Mexico has the highest breakfast participation rate at 70% while Utah has the lowest at 34%.
