Fiscal Cliff Avoided; NE Delegates Split

Only one of Nebraska's House members voted for legislation to avoid the fiscal cliff. Republican 1st District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry voted YES, but 2nd District Republican Lee Terry of Omaha and 3rd District Republican Adrian Smith voted against it. Nebraska U.S. Republican Senator Mike Johanns supported legislation avoiding the fiscal cliff, but said he would have preferred stopping a tax hike for every American. He says it would have significantly reduced spending and strengthened Social Security and Medicare, but Senator Johanns pointed out in a prepared statement that the approved package is a vast improvement from the Administration's original proposal.
