Husker Volleyball Takes Honors; Starter Leaves Team



Nebraska's setter and Pius X graduate Lauren Cook has been named to the AVCA All-America Volleyball First Team. Cook was named the AVCA's National Freshman Player of the Year in 2009, while at UCLA. Nebraska's senior outside hitters Gina Mancuso and Hannah Werth were second team selections. Fellow Husker Meggan Hegerty, along with Megan Bober and Kelli Browning from Creighton were honorable mention picks.

Meanwhile, a two-year starter for the Nebraska volleyball squad is leaving the team to move closer to family and play beach volleyball. Nebraska Coach John Cook said yesterday that Lara Dykstra is leaving the team to return home to California.
