The holiday season offers ample opportunity for family and friends to get together to celebrate the close of another year. Unfortunately, it also typically means a rise in the number of DUI arrests. Lincoln Police began their annual crackdown on December 1st, and Police Chief Jim Peshong reported that the volume of arrests has been discouraging. Since the enforcement began, there have been 81 DUI arrests; that’s up from 44 last year and 57 from 2010. Peshong noted that so far, 62 males and 19 females have been arrested for DUI, with the maximum Blood Alcohol Content so far at just under .3, nearly three times the legal limit. Peshong said that continued education is key to decreasing instances of alcohol-impaired driving.
