An overflow crowd filled the Rotunda of the State Capitol Sunday as Governor Dave Heinemann lit the official State Christmas Tree. The afternoon began with a prelude by "The Bells Of Trinity", the bell choir of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. The colors were presented by ROTC cadets from Lincoln Northeast High School. The invocation was given by the Reverend Robert Jeambey of Lincoln. Additional musical numbers were presented by the Scott Middle School select choir and the North Star High School choreographed choir. The official welcome was given by Mark Harris on behalf of Pinewood Bowl Inc., the group that organizes the tree lighting. Aaron Shuster, President of the Lincoln Jaycees, introduced Governor Dave Heinemann, who greeted the state and offered Christmas wishes from himself and First Lady Sally Ganem. The Governor then surrounded himself with many of the children in attendance, and after a countdown they lit the giant Blue Spruce decorated with ornaments from all 93 counties of the state. The Governor is shown here thanking Jerome and Sharon Rossow of rural Lincoln, who donated the tree.
