The Nebraska football team rallied to defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes 13-7 today (Fri.) in the last game of the regular season for both teams. Iowa took a 7-3 lead at halftime in cold and windy conditions in Iowa City, but the Huskers rallied with a 52-yard field goal by Bret Maher and a go-ahead touchdown by Rex Burkhead on a 3-yard run to win by six.Alonzo Whaley's interception with 2:11 left sealed the victory for Nebraska. The win clinches a spot in the Big Ten championship game for the Huskers. Nebraska will have a rematch with Wisconsin a week from tomorrow (Sat.) night (Dec. 1) with the winner going to the Rose Bowl. The Huskers edged the Badgers 30-27 during the regular season.
Burkhead, making his first appearance since Oct. 20 against Northwestern, rushed for 69 yards on 16 carries. After the game on ABC-TV, Husker Coach Bo Pelini said it was Burkhead's decision to go into the game.
