The Iowa football team opened its Big Ten season by defeating Minnesota and Michigan State and was on top of the Legends Division standings back in October. However, the Hawkeyes then lost their next five games and will take a 4-7 overall record into the game against Nebraska Friday in Iowa City. Iowa will not be bowl eligible for the first time since 2000. Hawkeye Coach Kirk Ferentz is in his 14th season at Iowa, making him the dean among active Big Ten coaches. Before arriving at Iowa, Ferentz was the offensive line coach for the NFL's Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns from 1993 to 1998. His only previous head coaching job was at Maine from 1990 to 1992.
