Those testifying during Monday's Lincoln City Council public hearing on a proposed rate increase on your electric bill say Lincoln Electric System should reduce it's proposed rate increase of 2.6% by about 1% through an expected $2-million surplus. The overall rate increase would mean a monthly increase of $2.43 on your home electric bill and more than $6,900 on average for Lincoln's bigger industrial businesses. A vote on the LES budget and rate increase from the City Council is scheduled for December 3rd. The reduction was encouraged by members of big industries that use a lot of electricity, but John Atkeison with the Nebraska Wildlife Federation says the extra money should be put toward the sustainable energy program.
