Water Woes Affect NE Communities

Water worries have affected two communities on opposite sides of the state. People in Ceresco boiled their water over the weekend because a water main valve broke while crews were trying to replace a fire hydrant. Wells were shut down for about 12 hours.
In Alliance, one city well has been shut down due to high levels of arsenic. The Nebraska Department of Health says there's no immediate risk from the arsenic, which is naturally present in the environment and may occur as a by-product of agricultural and industrial activities.
