Kerrey Targets Fischer Lawsuit Against Neighbors

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - Democratic U.S. Senate hopeful Bob Kerrey is accusing Republican Deb Fischer of betraying her neighbors with an unsuccessful lawsuit that cost the elderly couple $40,000 in legal fees.
Kerrey's campaign unveiled a new television ad Monday that accuses Fischer of trying to take valuable land from the late Les and Betty Kime in Cherry County.
The ad seizes on a 1995 lawsuit that Fischer and her husband filed against the Kimes. The 104 acres in question belonged to the Kimes, but the Fischers used it for free and with permission to water cattle. The Fischers claimed "adverse possession," a legal term akin to squatter's rights, because they managed the land for years.
Phone and email messages were left with the Fischer campaign. A campaign spokesman has called the allegations frivolous.
