Man Arrested For Assaulting Police Officers With Car

An 18-year-old Lincoln man is in jail and faces several charges after speeding away from a traffic stop near 21st and Cornhusker late last night (Sunday) and dragging two officers with him. Lincoln Police Officer Katie Flood said Shahbaz Mohammad apparently refused to get out of the car and started digging through the compartments of his 19-year-old girlfriend's car that he was driving. Both officers reacted by breaking a window to reach in and stop Mohammad. Mohammad sped off, dragging one officer and knocking the other down. The second officer let go of the car at 31st and Cornhusker. A third officer chased the vehicle until speeds reached between 90 and 100 mph near 44th and Cornhusker, where the pursuit was called off. Around 5 o'clock this morning (Monday), officers tracked down the 2012 red Honda Accord near 84th and Van Dorn where Mohammad was arrested for two counts of assault on an officer and fleeing to avoid arrest. Mohammad's girlfriend was in the car and was questioned, but not arrested.
