NU Partners With Defense Department For Research Center
The University of Nebraska is partnering with the Defense Department to conduct research that will support U.S. Strategic Command's various military missions. The university says it will join 13 other institutions in developing a university-affiliated research center., which will support StratCom in several areas, including nuclear detection and forensics, detection of chemical and biological weapons, and space, cyber and telecommunications law. The research center will draw from staff resources at all four NU campuses. The initial defense contract award could reach $84 million over the next five years. U.S. Strategic Command, or StratCom, is based at Offutt Air Force Base south of Omaha.
