Council Receives Two Counts of Abuse of Public Record

State Senator Brenda Council received two counts of abuse of public record in Lancaster County for filing false campaign finance reports to conceal her withdrawal of more than $60,000 from campaign funds to gamble. Council apologized, saying she has a gambling addiction. She spent $27,000 gambling, but returned nearly $36,000 of the money to the funds. Council will pay back the $27,000 as well as a $500 fine. She plans to remain in this year's Legislature race against Ernie Chambers.
