All the hard work Taylor Martinez put into his mechanics during the offseason paid off as Martinez and the Huskers rolled to a season opening win against Southern Mississppi 49-20 Saturday. Martinez had a career day, throwing for 354 yards and 5 touchdowns. Rex Burkhead scored the opening touchdown, but was later benched after suffering what is being reported as a sprained MCL. The injury is not expected to be long term. Meanwhile, the defense looked average at times giving up 185 yards rushing and missing key tackles. Nebraska will look to carry the momentum of the win into next weekend as the Huskers travel to the west coast to take on UCLA which will kick off at 7pm and be televised on FOX.
