LINCOLN -- Lincoln drivers are driving much safer compared to other cities. There were 28 fewer traffic crashes in 2010, compared to 2009 where there were 7,738 collisions, according to a city crash study. Mayor Beutler says since 1979, the city's safety improvement program has been a contributor in the downward trend of crashes. Drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists paying more attention to their own safety are also receiving credit for fewer crashes. Allstate Insurance ranked Lincoln third in the country in their 2011 America's Best Drivers report, an improvement over the city's No. 9 ranking a year before. Among cities it's size, Lincoln ranks No. 1.
