Two Arrests Made In Stolen Check Scheme

LINCOLN -- Two Florida women are suspected of felony forgery that also involved in a high-speed chase through east Lincoln Monday afternoon.  Police Officer Katie Flood says 29-year-old Erica Martinez and 19-year-old Britney Baker are apart of a group called the "Felony Lane Gang", where they travel across the country to break into vehicles and steal checks and IDs. Flood says attempts were allegedly made by Martinez, Baker and a third person to cash stolen checks totaling $19,000 between 9:30am and 1:30pm Monday at six Lincoln banks. A chase ensued, but was stopped at 70th and Holdrege when speeds reached more than 70 mph. All three were hurt after their SUV was involved in a crash at 84th and Havelock a short time later. Martinez and Baker were arrested Tuesday shortly after their release from a hospital. A third arrest is pending.
