Elmhurst, Ill -- Nebraska-Omaha right fielder Ryan Keele is player of the year and newcomer of the year in the Summit League, and Mavericks coach Bob Herold is coach of the year. The conference announced its baseball honors at a banquet Wednesday night in Elmhurst, Ill. Keele batted .461 in league games and was second in all games at .385. The transfer from Northwestern State hit six home runs, drove in 33 runs and had a .571 slugging percentage, all league highs. Herold led the Mavericks to the regular-season championship in their second year transitioning from Division II to Division I. UNO was 27-22 overall and 20-6 in Summit League play. Joining Keele on the All-Summit League first team are first baseman Cory Buckley, third baseman Tyler Splichal and catcher Alex Mortensen.
