HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: Lewis Leaves Butler To Be NU Assistant

Michael Lewis is leaving his assistant coaching job at Butler to take the same position at Nebraska under Tim Miles.    Lewis announced his departure from the Bulldogs on Tuesday in a tweet in which he thanked players, coaches, staff and fans for the opportunity to work five seasons at the Indianapolis school.

District Baseball Pairings Released

Former Lincolnite Noel Wins Men's Lincoln Marathon

Lincoln native Eric Noel claimed first place at the 2016 Lincoln Marathon on Sunday, finishing with a time of 2:25:00. Noel, who now lives and trains in California, attended Lincoln North Star High School and Nebraska Wesleyan University.

HUSKER FOOTBALL: Collins, Valentine Picked In 3rd Round Of NFL Draft

Nebraska defensive tackle Maliek Collins became the first Husker taken in the 2016 NFL Draft, as he was selected in the third round by the Dallas Cowboys Friday evening.  Later in the round, fellow Husker defensive lineman Vincent Valentine was taken as the 96th pick by the New England Patriots.

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cincore Staying at Nebraska

Jasmine Cincore has chosen to return to the Nebraska women’s basketball team for the 2016-17 season, she and Coach Amy Williams announced on Friday, April 29.   “We are really excited that Jasmine has decided to stay at Nebraska,” Williams said.

HUSKER BASEBALL: Rutgers Rallies To Be Huskers

One out away from taking the series opener at Rutgers (22-20, 6-7 Big Ten) on Friday afternoon, the Nebraska baseball team (26-16, 7-6 Big Ten) was able to complete the victory, as a single by Christian Campbell and a throwing error plated two runs, resulting in a 3-2 walk off win for the Scarlet Knights.

New Football Exhibit At High School Hall of Fame Named In Osborne's Honor

The football exhibit hall at the Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame will be named in honor of former University of Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne.  The Nebraska High School Sports Hall of Fame Foundation made the announcement Thursday.  

Ex-Husker Football Star Blahak Dies

Former Nebraska football defensive back Joe Blahak, a member of the Cornhuskers' national championship teams in 1970-71, has died.    Roper & Sons Funeral Home in Lincoln confirmed Blahak's death Monday. He was 65.    

LNE and NWU Hall of Fame Athlete Squires Dies

Nebraska Wesleyan and Lincoln Northeast hall of fame athlete Cliff Squires has died. He was 89-years-old. Squires is a member of the Northeast, Nebraska Wesleyan, Nebraska Football and Nebraska High School Sports halls of fame. 


Nebraska junior Andrew White III has announced his intention to declare for the 2016 NBA Draft, but will not hire an agent, maintaining his college eligibility.  A new proposal adopted in January allows men's basketball student-athletes to enter the draft and participate in certain pre-draft activities while still maintaining college eligibility. 

HUSKER BASEBALL: Boldt Named To Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

Nebraska junior outfielder Ryan Boldt was one of 60 players named to USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch list on Wednesday. Boldt was one of 50 players named to the preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch list back in February. 

SALTDOGS BASEBALL: Pair of Pitchers Acquired In Trade With Wichita

The Lincoln Saltdogs acquired right-handed pitchers Matt Larkins and Brad Orosey in a trade with Wichita Tuesday. In exchange, Lincoln sent cash and the reversionary rights to OF Dexter Kjerstad, who is currently playing in the Miami Marlins organization.

Stokes Named Big Ten Co-Player of the Week

Senior center fielder Kiki Stokes was honored for a terrific weekend on Monday, when she was named the co-Big Ten Player of the Week. The award was the first weekly honor for Stokes this season and the second of her career.

New Nebraska Women's Coach Williams Gets 5-year Deal

Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst says new women's basketball coach Amy Williams is receiving a five-year contract paying $575,000 annually. Williams was introduced at a news conference Tuesday.

HUSKER FOOTBALL: Nebraska Continues To Push Through Spring Practice

The Nebraska football team practiced in full pads for just over two hours on Tuesday in the Hawks Championship Center and the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Fields. Defensive Coordinator Mark Banker spoke with the media following practice regarding how the defense continued making strides in practice.


The Nebraska baseball team (19-9, 5-1 Big Ten) had its three-game winning streak against the Kansas State Wildcats (13-17, 0-6 Big 12) snapped on Tuesday night at Hawks Field with a 4-2 defeat. The Huskers had the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the eighth with no outs, but were unable to drive in the runs.

Nebraska Women's Basketball coach Connie Yori has stepped down after 14 seasons.  The decision was announced Tuesday afternoon through a statement from the University of Nebraska Athletic Department.

HUSKER BASEBALL: Nebraska Earns Road Sweep Over Purdue

The Nebraska baseball team (16-7, 3-0 Big Ten) completed a sweep of the Purdue Boilermakers (4-17, 0-3 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon, holding on for a 9-8 victory. It’s the first conference road sweep by the Huskers since May of 2014, when Nebraska swept Michigan State in East Lansing.

Natalie Romeo notched the second triple-double in school history and Maddie Simon produced career highs with 16 points and seven rebounds to power Nebraska to a 76-67 women's basketball win over Northwestern on Sunday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. 

HUSKER BASEBALL: Coll. of Charleston Takes Game 2 From Nebraska

After holding the College of Charleston scoreless in the season opener on Friday, the Huskers were unable to take the series on Saturday, as the Cougars’ offense carried them to a 13-5 win. The Huskers were only out-hit on the day 12-11, but committed four errors that led to four unearned runs.

2016/2017 High School Football Schedules Released

The Nebraska School Activities Association has released the football schedules for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.  While they are laid out by which week games will played, exact dates and times will have been determined by each individual school.  

Shrine Bowl Rosters Announced

This year's Nebraska Shrine Bowl football game will be Saturday, June 4th at Foster Field at the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  Among the Lincoln area players on the South team include Jack Cobb of East, Alex Bruner of Southeast and Louis Gray of Norris.

Lincoln Area Athlete Sign Letters Of Intent

Several Lincoln area boys and girls high school athletes signed letters of intent to compete at the college level during the winter signing period on Wednesday.  Schools range from the Division I, II and III levels to NAIA.

SALTDOGS BASEBALL: Pitchers Spink and McGovern Traded

The Lincoln Saltdogs have made some off-season trades.   All-Star catcher Luis Alen from Winnipeg and outfielder Logan Vick from Amarillo will becoming to Lincoln, in exchange for left-handed pitchers Conor Spink and Kevin McGovern.  

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Georgetown Storms Back To Beat Creighton

D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera scored 19 points, including two key free throws with 6.2 seconds left, to help Georgetown rally past Creighton 74-73 on Tuesday night.     Creighton went on a 10-2 run for a 64-53 lead with five minutes left.

There will be a new skipper in the dugout at Haymarket Park this summer.  The Lincoln Saltdogs have hired Bobby Brown as the team's new manager, taking over for Ken Oberkfell, who stepped down for family reasons.

FOOTBALL: NSAA Releases District Assignments For 2016 and 2017

District High School Football Assignments for the 2016-2017 seasons have been released.  In Class A, district 1 Lincoln North Star will face Bellevue West, Norfolk, Omaha Burke, Omaha Northwest, Omaha South and Omaha Westside.
