Nebraska V. Michigan State Is Night Game


Image result for huskersThe Big Ten Conference and ESPN/ABC announced Thursday that Nebraska’s Nov. 7 game against Michigan State will be a prime-time contest at Memorial Stadium. The game will be carried on either ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: NU To Play Villanova In Tipoff Games


For the first time in more than 16 years, the Nebraska Men's Basketball team will play Villanova next season.  The matchup between the Huskers and Wildcats will be part of the Gavitt Tipoff Games in November, which features eight games between Big Ten and Big East teams over the next eight seasons.  

Miles Optimistic Despite Loss of Players, Coach


Nebraska men's basketball coach Tim Miles says he's optimistic about his program's future even though two players and an assistant coach have unexpectedly left over the past three weeks.  Walter Pitchford is declaring for the NBA draft and Tarin Smith is transferring. On Sunday assistant coach Chris Harriman told Miles he was leaving to become associate head coach at New Mexico.

HUSKER BASKETBALL: Petteway Declares For NBA Draft


 Nebraska junior guard Terran Petteway announced Thursday morning that he is forgoing his senior season to declare for the 2015 NBA Draft.  Petteway, a fourth-year junior from Galveston, Texas, is on track to earn his degree in May and has spent the last three seasons at Nebraska after transferring from Texas Tech.

HUSKER BASEBALL: Placzek Delivers Again in 7-6 Win at Creighton


The No. 23 Nebraska baseball team (27-11, 5-4 Big Ten) came away with a 7-6 victory on Tuesday night at TD Ameritrade Park and for the third time in four games against the Creighton Bluejays (20-9, 5-1 Big East), Nebraska’s Jake Placzek delivered the game-winning hit.

Longtime sports broadcaster Adrian Fiala has died. The former Nebraska football and baseball player had been suffering from a lung condition. 

Ex-Husker Phillips Suspected of Killing Prison Cellmate


Former Nebraska and NFL running back Lawrence Phillips is suspected of killing his cellmate in a Central California prison.  Prison officials said Monday that Phillips' cellmate at Kern Valley State Prison was found lifeless over the weekend and later pronounced dead.

HUSKER BASEBALL: Maryland Rallies To Beat NU To Take Series


The No. 18 Nebraska baseball team (23-10, 3-3 Big Ten) jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the No. 17 Maryland Terrapins (22-7, 7-2 Big Ten) on Sunday afternoon, but the Terrapins fought back and scored the game’s final six runs, including an unearned run in the ninth for a 6-5 win.

HUSKER BASKETBALL: Could Petteway Turn Pro?


Rumors are already flying about Nebraska Men's basketball junior guard Terran Petteway going to declare for the NBA draft.  The online basketball website Real GM reported through an anonymous source that Petteway had been planning to enter the draft and was finalizing a deal with an agent.

Nebraska guard Tarin Smith has announced he's transferring, making him the second Husker Men's basketball player to leave the program in two days.    Head Coach Tim Miles said Tuesday night he's disappointed in Smith's decision.

Nebraska volleyball head coach John Cook announced on Tuesday that Alexa Ethridge, Maddie Haggerty and Kira Larson are leaving the Nebraska volleyball program. Each player has been given a full release to transfer.

2015 Husker Volleyball Schedule Is Set


The Nebraska volleyball program has announced its 2015 season schedule. After leading the nation in attendance for the second straight season with 8,083 fans per match last season, the Huskers will play 15 regular-season matches at the Bob Devaney Sports Center in 2015.

Former Husker Star Fails NFL Combine Drug Test


NFL.com is reporting that former Nebraska football player Randy Gregory failed a drug test.  He had tested positive for marijuana at the NFL scouting combine last month.  

HUSKER BASEBALL: Win Streak At 11 For NU, After Win Over Fullerton


Nebraska's 18-and-6 baseball team extended its winning streak to 11 games Tuesday night with a 7-to-2 victory over Cal State-Fullerton.  It was the Huskers first-ever win over the perennial power Titans, who had won the first eight meetings between the two teams.

Former Hoops Star Kropp Retires As UNK Men's Coach


Tom Kropp is retiring as the University of Nebraska-Kearney men’s basketball head coach effective June 30th.  Kropp recently completed his 39th season with UNK basketball and finishes his head coaching career with a 482-245 record, covering 25 seasons.

The University of Nebraska proudly announced the inaugural class of the University of Nebraska Athletics Hall of Fame on Tuesday, March 17. A total of 22 distinguished student-athletes will be enshrined this fall in conjunction with the Huskers’ season-opening football game against BYU.

D.J. Newbill scored 26 points, Shep Garner added 19 and Penn State hung on to beat Nebraska 68-65 Wednesday in the Big Ten tournament opener.

Millard West Player Statuses In Question After MIP Citations


Millard West could be without one or more of its varsity basketball players when it plays in the state basketball tournament in Lincoln this week.    One 18-year-old member of the team was among some 70 people cited by police for minor in possession at a party in west Omaha on Saturday night.

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: NU Falls At No. 16 Maryland


Melo Trimble scored 26 points, including a pair of pivotal 3-pointers down the stretch, and No. 16 Maryland squeezed past Nebraska 69-65 Thursday night in the first-ever meeting between the teams in men's basketball.  Walter Pitchford came off the bench to score 19 points for Nebraska, who now falls to 13-13 overall.  

Shrine Bowl Set For June 6


The 2015 Shrine Football game at Foster Field on the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus will be Saturday, June 6. Southeast head coach Ryan Gottula will lead the South team, while Lincoln Christian's Matt Farup will be an assistant. 

BREAKING NEWS: NU Assistant Warren Reportedly Headed To North Carolina


Sports Illustrated is reporting that Nebraska secondary coach Charlton Warren has accepted a similar job on the University of North Carolina football team.  Warren had just been retained by new Nebraska coach Mike Riley, as the lone holdover from former coach Bo Pelini's staff.  Warren would reunite with Tar Heels head coach Larry Fedora.  

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: 'Bama Upsets 12th-Ranked Huskers


Nikki Hegstetter scooped a loose ball off the floor to score with less than two seconds to play and Alabama survived a missed final shot to upset 12th-ranked Nebraska 53-51 on Sunday.  Hegstetter had two baskets and two offensive boards by that point but was in the right spot to scoop an Ashley Williams miss off the floor and toss in her own shot as the Crimson Tide (8-3) handed Nebraska it's first loss of the season (7-1).

Omaha To Host 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Regional Tourney


The NCAA announced Monday that CenturyLink Center Omaha will host the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Midwest Regional in 2018. The 2018 Regional will mark the fourth time that CenturyLinkCenter Omaha has hosted NCAA Tournament Basketball action, joining Second/Third Round games it has hosted in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2015 games the facility will host in March.  

Abdullah Finalist for Two National Awards


University of Nebraska senior I-back Ameer Abdullah was selected as a finalist for a pair of awards Tuesday afternoon. The Homewood, Ala., native was chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award and one of 12 finalists for the 2014 Wuerffel Award.

Silver Hawks Still In State Softball Tourney After Day One


Lincoln Southwest is still alive in the NSAA State High School Softball Tournament, after falling in their first game in the Class A tournament 12-6 to Papillion-LaVista, but bouncing back to beat Lincoln North Star 4-0 in an elimination game Thursday at the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings.   

Nebraska's 2015 Baseball Schedule Is Out


The Nebraska baseball team's 2015 schedule is out, with the opening game of the year scheduled for Friday, February 13th in Las Vegas, taking on the UNLV Rebels.   The Huskers will play 27 home games at Haymarket Park and will open up the home part of the schedule March 10th, hosting Northern Colorado.   

Two Saltdogs Receive Weekly Honors


The Lincoln Saltdogs swept the league's weekly awards for the week ending June 1, as 1B Ian Gac was named Pointstreak Player of the Week and RHP Marquis Fleming was named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week. Pointstreak is the official baseball statistician of the American Association.
