DISTRICT BOYS BASKETBALL: Rockets, Crusaders Head To State

Lincoln Northeast has punched a ticket to the Boys State Basketball tournament next week, after earning a 66-63 win over South Sioux City to win the Class A, District 7 championship Monday night in South Sioux City.  Tyson Shadegg led four Rockets in double-figures with 18 points.

District Basketball Continues Tonight On Air

Image result for nsaaBoys District basketball coverage continues on KFOR 1240 tonight, with the B-1 semifinal matchup between Norris and Waverly.  Tip off will be at 7:30pm.  The winner will face the winner of the game beforehand between  Pius X and Plattsmouth.

Four Huskers Earn Big Ten Awards

Image result for husker basketballEmily Cady and Rachel Theriot earned second-team All-Big Ten honors, while Tear'a Laudermill added honorable-mention recognition when the Big Ten Conference announced its postseason awards live on Big Ten Network on Monday. Senior Hailie Sample rounded out Nebraska's award winners.

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cady, Jeffery Notch Double-Doubles In Loss To Ohio St

Emily Cady and Brandi Jeffery both recorded double-doubles, but Ohio State used a 15-0 run to end the first half to propel the Buckeyes to a 78-60 women's basketball win over Nebraska on Senior Day for the Huskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena. 

Four Lincoln Area Girls Basketball Teams Head To State

Lincoln Northeast, Lincoln Pius X, Norris and Lincoln Christian have all qualified for next weekend's NSAA Girls State Basketball tournament.


Northeast's Austen Alexander Claim State Diving Title

Shields Named First-Team Academic All-American

NWU Ends Season with 89-69 Loss at GPAC Tournament

Nebraska Wesleyan's inaugural basketball season under coach Dale Wellman came to a close with a 89-69 loss at Briar Cliff in the first round of the GPAC Men's Basketball tournament on Wednesday night (Feb. 25) at the Newman Flanagan Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: NU Overpowers Minnesota, 74-50

Freshman Natalie Romeo tied career highs with 21 points and six three-pointers, as No. 23 Nebraska overpowered Minnesota for a 74-50 women's basketball win at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Tuesday night.

Creighton Powers By DePaul, 75-62, McDermott Wins 400th

James Milliken scored 18 points, helping coach Greg McDermott win his 400th game as the Creighton Men's basketball team beat DePaul 75-62 on Tuesday night. Creighton led by as many as 13 in the first half, but DePaul roared back in the second frame, cutting its deficit to two on a Forrest Robinson 3-pointer with 6:57 left.

Aaron White had 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Iowa rode a 21-2 run to end the first half to a 74-46 victory over the Nebraska Men's Basketball team on Sunday.  

NU BASEBALL: Headley's Three-Run Double Helps Huskers In Win Over BYU

Blake Headley's three-run double in the ninth inning helped the Nebraska baseball team to a 6-3 win over BYU on Thursday afternoon.

Day One Results of State High School Wrestling Meet

Lincoln Southwest is tied for fourth in the team standings of the Class A state wrestling meet in Omaha. The Silver Hawks are tied with Creighton Prep after day one. Millard South is the team leader. Omaha Skutt is at the top of the Class B leaderboard.  

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: NU Falls At No. 16 Maryland

Melo Trimble scored 26 points, including a pair of pivotal 3-pointers down the stretch, and No. 16 Maryland squeezed past Nebraska 69-65 Thursday night in the first-ever meeting between the teams in men's basketball.  Walter Pitchford came off the bench to score 19 points for Nebraska, who now falls to 13-13 overall.

Shrine Bowl Set For June 6

The 2015 Shrine Football game at Foster Field on the University of Nebraska-Kearney campus will be Saturday, June 6. Southeast head coach Ryan Gottula will lead the South team, while Lincoln Christian's Matt Farup will be an assistant. 

NWU Basketball: Men Earn Win, Women Suffer Loss vs. Doane

Nebraska Wesleyan completed the season sweep over Doane College in men's basketball with a 89-79 victory over the rival Tigers on Wednesday night (Feb. 18) at the Haddix Center in Crete.  With the victory, the Prairie Wolves clinch a spot in the 2015 GPAC Postseason Tournament as they improve to 12-12 overall and 9-10 in conference play.


HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Northwestern Upsets No. 21 Nebraska

Nia Coffey scored 17 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked four shots to lead Northwestern to a 59-51 victory over No. 21 Nebraska on Wednesday night.  Lauren Douglas scored 15 points off the bench for the Wildcats (20-6, 10-5 Big Ten), who have won six consecutive games. Ashley Deary and Karly Roser each added 10 points. Coffey turned in her sixth straight double-double.  

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Jones' Layup Helps No. 19 Butler Escape Creighton

Roosevelt Jones made the winning layup with 1.9 seconds to lift No. 19 Butler to a 58-56 win over Creighton and avoid getting upset by the Big East's last-place team Monday night.  The Bulldogs (19-7, 9-4) wouldn't have been in position for Jones' game-winner if Alex Barlow hadn't scrambled to rebound Kellen Dunham's missed shot a few seconds earlier. 

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: Big Red Falls On The Road at Purdue

Vince Edwards scored 15 points and Kendall Stephens added 12 on Sunday, leading Purdue to a 66-54 Big Ten Conference victory against Nebraska in Mackey Arena.  Purdue (17-9, 9-4) pulled back into a second-place tie with 19th-ranked Maryland, each three games in the loss column behind league-leading Wisconsin. 


Natalie Romeo scored a career-high 21 points and Tear'a Laudermill added 20 and No. 22 Nebraska ended a three-game losing streak with a 70-63 win over Wisconsin on Sunday.  All three of the losses came against ranked teams and after the Cornhuskers (18-7, 8-6 Big Ten) lost standout guard Rachel Theriot to an ankle injury suffered in practice.  

BREAKING NEWS: NU Assistant Warren Reportedly Headed To North Carolina

Sports Illustrated is reporting that Nebraska secondary coach Charlton Warren has accepted a similar job on the University of North Carolina football team.  Warren had just been retained by new Nebraska coach Mike Riley, as the lone holdover from former coach Bo Pelini's staff.  Warren would reunite with Tar Heels head coach Larry Fedora.

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: No. 5 Badgers Hold Off NU Comeback

Sam Dekker matched his career high with 21 points, and No. 5 Wisconsin built a big lead early and then held off Nebraska's late comeback bid for a 65-55 victory on Tuesday night.  The Badgers (22-2, 10-1 Big Ten) won their seventh straight game and extended their lead in the Big Ten to three games over the four teams tied for second place. 

CBs From Colorado Top Riley's 1st Nebraska Recruiting Class

New Nebraska coach Mike Riley has announced a recruiting class of 20 players on letter-of-intent signing day.  Riley added 11 players to a group of nine that verbally committed to former coach Bo Pelini before Pelini's firing after the regular season.  Some of the biggest names in the class are cornerbacks recruited out of Colorado by Pelini's staff. 

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Second Half Rally Helps NU In Win Over Michigan

Tear'a Laudermill scored 13 of her 19 points in the second half when No. 15 Nebraska took control for a 75-60 win over Michigan on Sunday.  Hailie Sample and Rachel Theriot added 14 points apiece for the Cornhuskers (17-4, 7-3 Big Ten), who shot 36 percent in the first half and trailed 31-25. 

Former Creighton Hoops Coach Barone To Be Honored

Former Creighton men's basketball coach Tony Barone will be among four inductees into the Creighton University Athletic Hall of Fame in April.   Barone led the Bluejays from 1985-91, compiling a 102-82 record in his six seasons. His teams won Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and tournament titles in 1989 and 1991, and he was Valley coach of the year in 1989. 

Former Omaha Central Star Agau Will Transfer To Georgetown

Former Omaha Central star and Louisville transfer Akoy Agau will continue to play college basketball at Georgetown. Agau had originally considered Nebraska, Marquette, Missouri-Kansas City and Wichita State before committing to Georgetown according to the website Nebraska High School Hoops.com. 

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: 'Bama Upsets 12th-Ranked Huskers

Nikki Hegstetter scooped a loose ball off the floor to score with less than two seconds to play and Alabama survived a missed final shot to upset 12th-ranked Nebraska 53-51 on Sunday.  Hegstetter had two baskets and two offensive boards by that point but was in the right spot to scoop an Ashley Williams miss off the floor and toss in her own shot as the Crimson Tide (8-3) handed Nebraska it's first loss of the season (7-1).

Petteway Among Top 50 For Wooden Award

Nebraska basketball standout Terran Petteway was tabbed for the Wooden Award Men's Preseason Top 50 Monday afternoon. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor.  

Omaha To Host 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Regional Tourney

The NCAA announced Monday that CenturyLink Center Omaha will host the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Midwest Regional in 2018. The 2018 Regional will mark the fourth time that CenturyLinkCenter Omaha has hosted NCAA Tournament Basketball action, joining Second/Third Round games it has hosted in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2015 games the facility will host in March.  

Abdullah Finalist for Two National Awards

University of Nebraska senior I-back Ameer Abdullah was selected as a finalist for a pair of awards Tuesday afternoon. The Homewood, Ala., native was chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award and one of 12 finalists for the 2014 Wuerffel Award.

Silver Hawks Still In State Softball Tourney After Day One

Lincoln Southwest is still alive in the NSAA State High School Softball Tournament, after falling in their first game in the Class A tournament 12-6 to Papillion-LaVista, but bouncing back to beat Lincoln North Star 4-0 in an elimination game Thursday at the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings.   

Nebraska's 2015 Baseball Schedule Is Out

The Nebraska baseball team's 2015 schedule is out, with the opening game of the year scheduled for Friday, February 13th in Las Vegas, taking on the UNLV Rebels.   The Huskers will play 27 home games at Haymarket Park and will open up the home part of the schedule March 10th, hosting Northern Colorado.   

Nebraska Mens Hoops: Huskers To Play On BTN 13 Times In 2014-15

A minimum of 13 Nebraska men’s basketball games will air across Big Ten Network platforms this season.  Eleven games will air on BTN and available nationally...two games will air online on BTN Plus, which is a subscription-based service available on computers, smartphones and tablets as part of the BTN2Go app.  

Two Saltdogs Receive Weekly Honors

The Lincoln Saltdogs swept the league's weekly awards for the week ending June 1, as 1B Ian Gac was named Pointstreak Player of the Week and RHP Marquis Fleming was named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week. Pointstreak is the official baseball statistician of the American Association.  

Nebraska Women's Basketball Notches NCAA Tourney Win

Husker Men Fall to Baylor in NCAA Tournament

The Husker Basketball team is finished after one game in the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska coach Tim Miles was ejected from the Cornhuskers'  West Region game against Baylor after getting whistled for two technical fouls in the second half. Miles drew his second technical for unsportsmanlike conduct with 11:17 left in the game and Nebraska losing 50-32.

Nebraska softball player Tatum Edwards was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. The award is the first of Edwards’ career, although she is a four-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honoree.....
