Husker Women Escape Illinois in Final Minutes

Tear'a Laudermill scored 16 points and Natalie Romeo hit a late 3-pointer to help No. 15 Nebraska women hold off Illinois for a 59-57 win on Thursday night.    Hailie Sample made a layup with 1:57 left, giving Nebraska (16-4, 6-3, Big 10) it's first lead of the game.

NWU MEN'S BASKETBALL: High Scoring Prairie Wolves Upset No. 8 Midland

Trey Bardsley made two free throws with 2.6 seconds remaining in the game, then stole the Midland pass attempt on a last second try to tie the game as Nebraska Wesleyan held on for a thrilling 110-108 upset victory over the #8 Warriors on Wednesday night (Jan. 28) at Snyder Arena.  

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Creighton Snaps Losing Streak, Beats St. John's

Toby Hegner had 21 points, James Milliken nailed a pair of late 3-pointers and Creighton snapped a nine-game skid, beating St. John's 77-74 on Wednesday night.  Hegner made a pair of free throws with 12 seconds left to put Creighton (10-12, 1-8 Big East) up 75-72. 

MEN'S BASKETBALL: South Dakota State Routs Omaha 86-64

Deondre Parks scored a career-best 26 points as South Dakota State routed Omaha 86-64 on Wednesday night.  Parks finished with 7-of-8 shooting from the field  - including 5-of-5 from 3-point range - for the Jackrabbits (16-7, 7-2 Summit League). Jake Bittle added 21 points and seven rebounds and Cody Larson had 15 points and seven rebounds. 

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: Michigan's Strong 2nd Half Too Much For NU

Zak Irvin had 14 points and 12 rebounds and Michigan rode a strong second-half start to a 58-44 victory over Nebraska on Tuesday.  The Wolverines (13-8, 6-3 Big Ten) led 23-18 at intermission and blew the game open after starting the second on a 13-2 run. Irvin closed the spurt with a 3-pointer and the Cornhuskers never got closer than eight points the rest of the night.  


Ally Disterhoft scored all 20 of her points in the second half and overtime to lead No. 20 Iowa to its first victory against No. 15 Nebraska in nine tries as a Big Ten opponent, 78-72 on Monday.  Bethany Doolittle had six of her 12 points during the extra period while Iowa outscored Nebraska 17-11.

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: No. 16 Nebraska Women Take Care of Wisconsin Early

Tear'a Laudermill and Emily Cady combined for 34 of their 43 points in the first half on Thursday to lead No. 16 Nebraska to an 89-72 win over Wisconsin.  Laudermill had 18 of her 24 points and Cady 16 of her 19 as the Cornhuskers (15-3, 5-2 Big Ten) shot 62 percent in the first half for a 53-31 lead.  

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: Shields scores 15, Nebraska hangs on to beat Minnesota

Shavon Shields scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half and Nebraska survived an eight-minute field-goal drought to end the game to beat Minnesota 52-49 on Tuesday night.  The Cornhuskers (11-7, 3-3 Big Ten) made 11 of their last 12 free throws after starting 3 for 9 from the line.

HUSKER FOOTBALL: NU Gets Verbal Commit From Top-Ranked Lineman

The Nebraska football team has picked up a verbal commit from the top-ranked offensive guard in the country, as ranked by ESPN.  Jalin Barnett, a 6' 4", 315 pound Offensive Tackle/Guard from Lawton High School in Lawton, Oklahoma, has become the 16th verbal for the 2015 Nebraska recruiting cycle.  Barnett is a highly rated 4 star and is the top ranked player in the state

HUSKER FOOTBALL: Pierson-El Named To Freshman All-American Team

Nebraska's De’Mornay Pierson-El received one final honor from a fantastic freshman season on Wednesday, when he was named the punt returner on the Football Writers Association of America Freshman All-America team.  Pierson-El returned 34 punts for 596 yards in 2014, returning three punts for touchdowns while averaging 17.5 yards per return.

Former Crete Star McGinnis Leaving NDSU Football Program

North Dakota State University backup quarterback and Crete native Derek McGinnis is leaving the team.  The sophomore was third on the depth chart, behind junior Carson Wentz and freshman Cole Davis. 

NWU Men's Basketball: Giesselmann Receives Player of The Week

Nebraska Wesleyan University Men's Basketball junior forward Travis Giesselmann has been named the Hauff Mid-America Sports GPAC Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week as well as the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) men’s basketball Player-of-the-Week. 

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: NU Defense Cools Illinois' Shooting

Terran Petteway scored 18 points and Nebraska built an 11-point lead midway through the second half and held off Illinois 53-43 on Sunday night.  Nebraska (10-6, 2-2 Big Ten) made four of four free throws in the final two minutes to seal the win. The Huskers shot and made just one free throw in the first 38 minutes of the game.  

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Theriot's 27 Lifts NU Past Illini

Rachel Theriot scored 27 points, including 10 straight as the No. 19 Nebraska women's basketball team closed the game with a 15-4 run, to defeat Illinois 58-53 on Sunday.  The Illini (11-5, 2-2 Big Ten) were up 49-43 and looking for their second-straight win over a ranked team, when Theriot took over. 

Trev Alberts Named To College Football Hall of Fame

Former Nebraska defensive standout Trev Alberts will become the 17th Nebraska player in the College Football Hall of Fame. Alberts was one of 15 players and two coaches nationally whose pending inductions were announced Friday by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. 

HUSKER MEN'S BASKETBALL: Petteway's 20 Helps NU In Win Over Rutgers

Terran Petteway scored 20 points and Shavon Shields added 11, and Nebraska pulled away from Rutgers in the second half for a 65-49 victory Thursday night.  The Huskers (9-6, 1-2) are off to their best start in Big Ten play in their four years in the conference. Their previous starts were 0-4, 0-5 and 0-4.  

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cady's Three-Point Play Boosts NU To Win Over Spartan

Emily Cady scored 16 points, including a go-ahead three-point play with 30 seconds remaining and No. 19 Nebraska beat Michigan State 71-67 on Thursday night.  The victory was the first in Big Ten play for the Cornhuskers (11-3, 1-2) after dropping their first two conference games.  

Former Northeast Thrower Tupper Transfers To NU

Former Lincoln Northeast three-sport star and Creighton volleyball player Toni Tupper has transferred to Nebraska to compete in Track and Field.  Tupper has already enrolled at Nebraska for the spring semester and will be eligible to compete in the shot put. 

Former Omaha Central Star Agau Will Transfer To Georgetown

Former Omaha Central star and Louisville transfer Akoy Agau will continue to play college basketball at Georgetown. Agau had originally considered Nebraska, Marquette, Missouri-Kansas City and Wichita State before committing to Georgetown according to the website Nebraska High School 

HUSKER FOOTBALL: Riley Hires Four More Staff Members

New Nebraska football coach Mike Riley has hired four assistant coaches, leaving him with one spot to fill on his staff.  The assistants named Wednesday are running backs coach Reggie Davis, defensive line coach Hank Hughes, offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf and secondary coach Charlton Warren.  

NWU Basketball: Karn's 25 Helps Prairie Wolf Men In Win Over Hastings

Hot-shooting from Keithan Karn helped Nebraska Wesleyan build up a 20-point first half lead and extended their winning streak to three games as they went on the road and defeated Hastings College 109-96 in GPAC men's basketball action on Wednesday night. 

DePaul Alone In 1st In Big East With 70-60 Win Over Creighton

Forrest Robinson made his first five 3-pointers, all in the first six minutes of the game, and scored a career-high 20 points as DePaul took sole possession of first place in the Big East with a 70-60 victory over Creighton on Wednesday night at Century Link Center Omaha. 

HUSKER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: 'Bama Upsets 12th-Ranked Huskers

Nikki Hegstetter scooped a loose ball off the floor to score with less than two seconds to play and Alabama survived a missed final shot to upset 12th-ranked Nebraska 53-51 on Sunday.  Hegstetter had two baskets and two offensive boards by that point but was in the right spot to scoop an Ashley Williams miss off the floor and toss in her own shot as the Crimson Tide (8-3) handed Nebraska it's first loss of the season (7-1).

University of Nebraska Director of Athletics Shawn Eichorst has dismissed Head Football Coach Bo Pelini effective immediately. 



Petteway Among Top 50 For Wooden Award

Nebraska basketball standout Terran Petteway was tabbed for the Wooden Award Men's Preseason Top 50 Monday afternoon. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the sport’s most prestigious honor.  

Omaha To Host 2018 NCAA Men's Basketball Midwest Regional Tourney

The NCAA announced Monday that CenturyLink Center Omaha will host the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Midwest Regional in 2018. The 2018 Regional will mark the fourth time that CenturyLinkCenter Omaha has hosted NCAA Tournament Basketball action, joining Second/Third Round games it has hosted in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2015 games the facility will host in March.  

Abdullah Finalist for Two National Awards

University of Nebraska senior I-back Ameer Abdullah was selected as a finalist for a pair of awards Tuesday afternoon. The Homewood, Ala., native was chosen as one of 10 finalists for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award and one of 12 finalists for the 2014 Wuerffel Award.

Silver Hawks Still In State Softball Tourney After Day One

Lincoln Southwest is still alive in the NSAA State High School Softball Tournament, after falling in their first game in the Class A tournament 12-6 to Papillion-LaVista, but bouncing back to beat Lincoln North Star 4-0 in an elimination game Thursday at the Smith Softball Complex in Hastings.   

Nebraska's 2015 Baseball Schedule Is Out

The Nebraska baseball team's 2015 schedule is out, with the opening game of the year scheduled for Friday, February 13th in Las Vegas, taking on the UNLV Rebels.   The Huskers will play 27 home games at Haymarket Park and will open up the home part of the schedule March 10th, hosting Northern Colorado.   

Nebraska Mens Hoops: Huskers To Play On BTN 13 Times In 2014-15

A minimum of 13 Nebraska men’s basketball games will air across Big Ten Network platforms this season.  Eleven games will air on BTN and available nationally...two games will air online on BTN Plus, which is a subscription-based service available on computers, smartphones and tablets as part of the BTN2Go app.  

Two Saltdogs Receive Weekly Honors

The Lincoln Saltdogs swept the league's weekly awards for the week ending June 1, as 1B Ian Gac was named Pointstreak Player of the Week and RHP Marquis Fleming was named Pointstreak Pitcher of the Week. Pointstreak is the official baseball statistician of the American Association.

Husker Men Fall to Baylor in NCAA Tournament

The Husker Basketball team is finished after one game in the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska coach Tim Miles was ejected from the Cornhuskers'  West Region game against Baylor after getting whistled for two technical fouls in the second half. Miles drew his second technical for unsportsmanlike conduct with 11:17 left in the game and Nebraska losing 50-32.

Edwards Named Big Ten Players of the Week

Nebraska softball player Tatum Edwards was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. The award is the first of Edwards’ career, although she is a four-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honoree.....
