The Nebraska Womens Gymnastics team saw four individuals at the NCAA Event Finals Sunday afternoon bringing the 2014 Nebraska women’s gymnastics season to a close.

Edwards Sisters Help Huskers In Sweep of Buckeyes


Taylor Edwards hit a pair of home runs and sister Tatum picked up her 17th win as a pitcher this season, as the 19th ranked Nebraska softball team swept Ohio State  in front of more than 2,200 fans in a Saturday doubleheader.

Northwestern Edges Nebraska In 12 Innings


An RBI single in the top of the 12th inning gave the 9-and-24 Northwestern Wildcats a 2-1 victory over Nebraska on Friday night at Hawks Field. For the third consecutive game, Nebraska starter Christian DeLeon threw nine innings of work, but this time he was not awarded a complete game after he gave up a run in the seventh that allowed Northwestern to tie the game.

Carl Pelini Calls FAU Firing 'Unjustified'


Former Husker Defensive Coordinator Carl Pelini says his firing at Florida Atlantic University last year was unjustified and the result of a new athletic director who wanted to hire his own football coach. Pelini told KFAB radio in Omaha that there is nothing he did at Florida Atlantic that he is embarrassed about.

Husker Games to be Televised on Prime Time Networks


Nebraska’s games this season against Miami and Michigan State will be televised in prime time on the ESPN family of networks.  The Huskers host Miami Sept. 20 at Memorial Stadium. Then, two weeks later on Oct. 4, the Huskers will travel to East Lansing to take on the defending Big Ten champions.  Both games will be televised on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2.

NU Men's Basketball Director Moves to NDSU


The director of basketball operations the past two seasons under Nebraska head coach, Tim Miles,  will change jobs as an assistant at North Dakota State University.  Jayden Olson will be working for new NDSU coach, David Richman.  

Creighton Player Named Associated Press' Player of the Year


Doug McDermott, who finished his career at Creighton as college basketball's fifth-leading scorer, is a near-unanimous selection as The Associated Press' player of the year.   McDermott is the 11th three-time All-American and first in almost 30 years. He led the nation in scoring with a 26.7 average while shooting 52.6 percent from the field including 44.9 percent from 3-point range.

Husker Baseball Team Snaps Losing Streak Over UNLV


In front of more than 3,000 fans at Hawks Field and a national television audience on the Big Ten Network, the 15-and-12 Husker baseball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the UNLV Rebels Sunday afternoon.  Nebraska’s offense notched double-digit hits for the 18th time this season with 11.

Neb. Softball Team Defeats Northwestern


An 8-run 5th inning powered the 18th-ranked Nebraska softball team to a 10-1, five-inning victory at #23 Northwestern yesterday (Sunday), as the Huskers won the series with the Wildcats and handed Northwestern its first run-rule defeat of the season.  After four straight road games, the Huskers return home Wednesday to host Creighton.  

60 Neb. Special Olympics Teams Compete in Lincoln


Over 1,400 Nebraska Special Olympians spent their weekend in Lincoln for the Spring Games.  From bowling to basketball, over 60 teams traveled to Lincoln from as far as Scottsbluff and South Sioux City.  The Spring Games kicked off Friday with bowling at Sun Valley and Parkway Lanes.  Basketball took place Saturday at Lincoln Northeast High School and Abbott Sports Complex.

Neb. Baseball Team Loses to Kansas, Drives Back Home


The 14-and-10 Husker baseball team got behind early and never could come back from an 8-1 deficit after 2 innings, losing 12-6 to the Kansas State Wildcats Wednesday night at Tointon Stadium. The game ended a five-game road trip for the Huskers which started last Friday in Iowa City. Nebraska will return to Hawks Field on Friday, Mar. 28 to host a 3-game series against the UNLV Rebels.

Nebraska Women's Basketball Notches NCAA Tourney Win

Husker Men Fall to Baylor in NCAA Tournament


The Husker Basketball team is finished after one game in the NCAA Tournament. Nebraska coach Tim Miles was ejected from the Cornhuskers'  West Region game against Baylor after getting whistled for two technical fouls in the second half. Miles drew his second technical for unsportsmanlike conduct with 11:17 left in the game and Nebraska losing 50-32.

Edwards Named Big Ten Players of the Week


Nebraska softball player Tatum Edwards was named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday. The award is the first of Edwards’ career, although she is a four-time Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honoree.....

Huskers Hold First Florida Practice


The Nebraska football team practiced on the campus of the University of North Florida for the first time Friday morning, beginning preparation for the Gator Bowl against No. 23 Georgia. The Huskers and Bulldogs are set to battle Wednesday, New Year's Day, in an 11 a.m game that will be broadcast on ESPN2. The Huskers practiced in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts for just over two hours.  It was the first of four scheduled pre-game practices.

Huskers Prepare in Florida


The Nebraska football team arrived in Jacksonville, Florida yesterday (Thursday), six days away from their showdown with the 23rd-ranked Georgia Bulldogs in the Gator Bowl on New Year's Day. The Cornhuskers will workout today (Friday) for the first time since before Christmas. Kickoff of the Gator Bowl is at 11am next Wednesday.

Holiday Tourney Play Begins


The holiday basketball tournament schedule will get underway around the area tomorrow and Saturday. Tournaments that start Friday include the Lincoln Lutheran holiday tournament which will feature the host school Lutheran, along with Fairbury, Raymond Central and Louisville.

Hooper Leads Huskers to Win Over Utah State


All-American, Jordan Hooper, erupted for game highs of 33 points and 14 rebounds to lead #15 Nebraska to a 95-75 win over Utah State yesterday (Sunday) at Pinnacle Bank Arena. With the victory, Nebraska improved 7-2 overall, while Utah State slipped to 5-3.

Bluejays Take Down Huskers


All-American Doug McDermott scored a game-high 33 points to lead three Creighton players in double figures, as the Bluejays thumped Nebraska, 82-67 last (Sunday) night. The Huskers return to action on Saturday, taking on Arkansas State.

Huskers to Play in Gator Bowl New Years' Day


Nebraska will appear in a New Year’s Day bowl game for the 3rd straight season. The Huskers have been selected to play in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl in Jacksonville against Georgia. January 1st kick off will 11 o'clock - Lincoln time. Nebraska goes into the bowl game at 8-4.

Pelini Reprimanded By Big Ten Conference


The Big Ten office today issued a public reprimand of Nebraska football head coach Bo Pelini for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy following Nebraska’s game against Iowa on Nov. 29, 2013. In addition, the conference announced that the institution has been fined $10,000 as a result of the violation.

Husker Volleyball Hosts Another NCAA Regional


The Nebraska volleyball team will spend opening weekend of the postseason at home for the 10th straight season as the Bob Devaney Sports Center has been chosen as one of 16 sites for the NCAA 1st and 2nd-round play next weekend. The Huskers will be making their 32nd NCAA Tournament appearance and they will go in as the #8 overall seed among the 64 teams.

Falls City Sacred Heart Wins D2 Football Title


Charles Dunn passed for five touchdowns and ran for another, and top-ranked Falls City Sacred Heart won its first state football championship since 1994 and its seventh overall with its 63-14 victory over No. 9 Stuart in the Class D2 final Monday. The Irish (13-0) scored 56 straight points after falling behind 8-0 early.

Omaha Skutt Wins Class B Football TItle


Quarterback Isaiah Ramsey ran for two touchdowns and Zachary Zeplin intercepted three passes as second-ranked Omaha Skutt posted its fourth shutout of the season in a 30-0 victory over No. 4 York in the Class B championship game Monday night. The Skyhawks claimed their first title since 2005, winning 12 straight games after losing their season opener to Gretna.

Oklahoma High School Star Signs With NU Mens Hoops


Nebraska Men’s Basketball Coach Tim Miles announced that Jacob Hammond has signed a National Letter-of-Intent with the Husker basketball program on Wednesday, the first day of the fall signing period.  Hammond, a 6-foot-10, 230-pounder from Comanche, Okla., is considered one of the nation’s top big men in the class of 2014.

The run through the post season is over for the Lincoln Christian football team.  The Crusaders could not overcome a second half comeback by Ashland-Greenwood and fell to the Bluejays 33-13 Tuesday night at Memorial Stadium in Ashland.  Christian struck first, though, in the first quarter, with this 76-yard touchdown run from quarterback Logan Power on the third play in their opening drive.

Husker Soccer Headed to Championship Game


The top-seeded Nebraska soccer team faced an early deficit for second straight match but used three second-half goals to defeat No. 4 seed Indiana by a 3-1 margin on Friday in the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals at the Illinois Soccer Stadium. NU's season-best eighth consecutive win locked up a spot in Sunday's title match against the No. 7 seed Iowa.

Husker Soccer To Face Indiana


The top-seeded Nebraska soccer program continues its march toward the 2013 Big Ten Tournament title in Champaign on Friday, Nov. 8 with a semifinal match slated for 1:30pm against No. 4 seed Indiana. The Huskers will face the Hoosiers for the second time in a week as NU looks to capture its first Big Ten Tournament Championship and first tournament title since 2002.

Exhibition Play over for Women's Basketball


Exhibition play is over with for the 12th-ranked Nebraska womens basketball team, after their 75-34 victory against Nebraska-Kearney yesterday at Pinnacle Bank Arena. Jordan Hooper and Emily Cady had double-doubles, as Hooper scored 20 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, while Cady had 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. 

Nebraska, Michigan Game Time Set


Nebraska will play Michigan on ABC Saturday afternoon in Ann Arbor, Mich. That's according to the Big Ten Conference. The game will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Central on Saturday between the 6-2 Huskers and the 8-1 Wolverines will help determine which Big Ten teams will play in the conference championship game.

Hail Mary Leads to Saturday Win


Jordan Westerkamp caught Ron Kellogg III's tipped desperation heave to the end zone with no time left Saturday, giving Nebraska a 27-24 victory over Northwestern on Saturday. The Cornhuskers looked like they were finished after Northwestern took a three-point lead with 1:20 left. They started their final drive at their 17 with no timeouts.

Huskers Over Purdue, 44-7


The Huskers did what they were supposed to do Saturday against the Big Ten's weakest team, winning 44-7 at Purdue. If nothing else, the game showed they really could use injured veteran quarterback, Taylor Martinez, for the challenging November stretch which will determine whether the Huskers return to the Big Ten championship game.

First Conference Loss for Nebraska Volleyball


#9 Nebraska fell to #7 Michigan State over the weekend at Jenison Fieldhouse on the campus of Michigan State University. The loss marks the Huskers’ first conference defeat of the 2013 season. The Huskers return home next weekend to host Indiana on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. and Purdue on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m., at the Devaney Center.

Huskers Down Minnesota in 3 sets, Wisconsin in 5


After a huge win against No. 8 Minnesota on Friday night, the Husker volleyball team took a while to find their rhythm against No. 23 Wisconsin. While the ladies did come away with a win, they definitely had to fight through it as the game went all five sets last night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. 

Husker Fall Baseball Begins


Fall baseball is underway for the Nebraska baseball team. The Huskers will play a three-game Red/White series is set for Oct. 15-17. The Huskers return a solid nucleus from a team that was one win away from winning the Big Ten Tournament last season.

Nebraska Football Bye Week Practice


The Nebraska football team continued its bye week work during a two-hour practice held inside the Hawks Center and outside at the Ed and Joyanne Gass Practice Fields in shorts and helmets Wednesday afternoon. 

Husker Volleyball Wins in 3 against Dayton/Iowa Cyclones


The No.12 Husker volleyball keeps their winning streak up, with a win Friday night over Dayton in three sets (25-20, 25-21, 25-13) and then going on to take down the Iowa State Cyclones also in three sets (25-13, 25-22, 27-25). Against Dayton, Kelsey Robinson led NU offensively with 12 kills and a match-high of 17 digs. 

Huskers Fall Short to UCLA, SCORE 41-21


The No. 23 Huskers fell short against No. 16 UCLA yesterday morning after a strong start. Nebraska was ahead 21-3 in the second quarter, but the the Bruins scored 38 unanswered points by the end of the game. Taylor Martinez connected three times to start out the game, twice with Quincy Enunwa in the first quarter, and then for the third and final time of the game with Kenny Bell. 

No Outside Food and Drink Policy Back in Place


Don't bring a water bottle to Saturday's Nebraska-UCLA game. You were allowed to bring them into Memorial Stadium the first 2 home games because the heat was high, but that won't be the case Saturday, so the University's "No Outside Food and Drink Policy" goes back into effect.

Gac and Forgatch Home Runs Power Saltdogs



Pete Parise delivered a strong outing, and Ian Gac and Matt Forgatch each homered as the Lincoln Saltdogs (40-36) beat the Sioux Falls Canaries (31-44) 9-5 in front of 2,675 fans at Haymarket Park Tuesday night. Parise (9-5) went seven innings, allowing just one earned run while striking our four and walking one to earn the victory.

Scores from the Area 5 Legion Baseball tournament on Thursday at Sherman Field. Pinnacle Bank of Southwest beat Dinsdale Auto of Southeast 17-0 in 7 innings, U-Stop of Lincoln East beat Judds Brothers of Northeast 4-3, Anderson Ford of North Star beat JC Brager of Southeast 8-5, while Union Bank of Pius X beat Sampson Construction of Lincoln High 8-5. 

NU's Bell A Finalist For Biletnikoff Award



University of Nebraska junior wide receiver Kenny Bell joins the growing list of Huskers on preseason watch lists, as he was selected for the Biletnikoff Award on Tuesday. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder from Boulder, Colo., comes off a season where he earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media, and first-team accolades from BTN.com and ESPN.com among others.

Pitching Helps Gary SouthShore In Victory Over Saltdogs


Will Krout's pitching helped the Gary SouthShore RailCats (34-21) beat the Lincoln Saltdogs (30-26) 7-1 in front of 2,888 fans to take the series opener at Haymarket Park Monday night. Krout (2-4), allowed just one bloop single through seven innings. The 29-year old righty finished with 7 2/3 innings, one run on four hits, striking out six and walking none to earn the win.

Smith's Return Sparks Scoring Explosion For Saltdogs



The Lincoln Saltdogs demolished the Amarillo Sox, 12-to-3 Wednesday night in front of almost 2,900 fans at Haymarket Park. Curt Smith, who returned to Lincoln and signed with the Saltdogs, went 2-for-3 at the plate that included a two-run homer in the fifth inning.  The clubs are back at it Thursday at 7:05 p.m. for Game 2 of the four-game set.

Lehman Will Receive Boys Town's Highest Honor


Boys Town will present Tom Lehman with its most prestigious award when the professional golfer visits the world renowned home for troubled youth next week. Lehman, who will be in Omaha for the U.S. Senior Open, will receive the Father Flanagan Award for Service to Youth.

Big Ten Announces 2015 Conference Football Schedule


The Big Ten Conference announced the conference schedule for the 2015 football season on Monday morning, as approved by the Big Ten Directors of Athletics. The 2015 Big Ten schedule will consist of eight games, before the conference makes the move to a nine-game schedule in 2016.  Nebraska will open the 2015 Big Ten schedule at Illinois on Oct. 3, 2015. 

Southeast Captures Heartland Athletic Conference Baseball Crown


Lincoln Southeast won the Heartland Athletic Conference baseball championship with a 10-6 victory over Lincoln North Star Wednesday evening at Sherman Field. Jackson Ingram hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to spark a four-run rally for the Knights, who improved to 6-7.

Blue Jays Fall in Third Place Game in California


Kevin Larsen gave George Washington the lead with 1:03 left in the game and the Colonials held off No. 20 Creighton for a 60-53 victory that gave them third place in the Wooden Legacy on Sunday night. The Colonials took advantage of an off night by Doug McDermott, who came in averaging nearly 28 points per game but finished with seven.
