GRAND ISLAND, Neb. -- The Heartland Athletic Conference Track and Field championships were held in Grand Island on Wednesday. In the boys team standings, Fremont won the title, while Grand Island came in second and Lincoln East finished third. East's Braden Kleinschmidt won the 100 meter dash and long jump. North Star's Moujtaba Mohammed won the half-mile boys race. On the girls side, Lincoln Southwest captured the team title, while Grand Island finished runner-up and East came in third. Southwest's Steph Ahrens won the high jump and 100 meter high hurdles. Northeast's Toni Tupper won the gold in the shot put and Southwest's Taylor Els won the girls half-mile race.
