Public Hearing On Keystone XL Tonight

The Boone County Fairgrounds Event Center in Albion will be full tonight (Tuesday) with people who support and oppose the Keystone XL oil pipeline. An information session starts at 3 and a public hearing starts at 6. Originally, TransCanada wanted to build the pipeline from Canada to the Texas Gulf, through Nebraska's Sandhills and over the Ogallala Aquifer. The plan was rejected. A new proposed route skirts the heart of those environmentally sensitive areas, but not far enough, according to BOLD Nebraska, which argues that the pipeline will still carry thick tar sands oil and dangerous chemicals over the Ogallala Aquifer. Nebraskans for Jobs and Energy Independence said that the new pipeline route avoids all sensitive areas.
