A man claiming to be a member of the Bloods gang is in jail after he had been wanted for claiming that gang members were shooting people all over the city.
That was Wednesday, June 4, at Russ's Market near 17th and Washington streets where 32-year-old Ramel Perkins showed a clerk an old gunshot wound on his stomach. Store management provided a security tape to police, who had been looking for Perkins since the incident.
Early Tuesday morning, officers saw a man fitting his description walking near 17th and A streets. Lincoln Police Sgt. Jeri Roeder says there was a foot chase and Perkins was caught trying to get into a car. Roeder says a red hankerchief was found in his pocket that contained six bullets. Officers traced the path of the chase and found a cellphone and gun that apparently were dropped by Perkins. That gun was stolen out of Omaha last summer.
Perkins was arrested for felony possession of a firearm, along with failure to comply among other charges.
