Omaha Firefighters Get New Contract

Omaha firefighters are thankful that they finally have a new contract. They've been working without one for 5 years. Firefighters are getting a 2.5% pay raise this year, 2.25% next year and almost 3% in 2014. They'll pay 7% of their own health insurance costs. The deal would also help bolster the under-funded pension fund and reduce the city's obligations because firefighters would contribute more and new hires would be promised a smaller pension. The City Council has the final vote on the contract.
