1 out of every 3 people in this country is obese. Unless people start eating the right foods and exercising more, 6 of every 10 people in this country will be obese within the next 20 years. Mississippi would become the fattest state, with 68% of its citizens being obese. Nebraska is on target to become the 23rd fattest state at 57%. If Nebraskans reduce their weight by 5% by 2030, $3 1/2 million will be saved in health care costs. By 2030, medical costs associated with treating preventable obesity-related diseases are estimated to increase by $48 billion to $66 billion per year in the United States, and the loss in economic productivity could be between $390 billion and $580 billion annually by 2030.
