Americans consider themselves to be quite healthy, according to Census Bureau information. Nearly 2/3 of those surveyed reported their health to be either "excellent" or "very good." Statistics show that fewer people spent a night in the hospital between 2001 and 2010. More than half of all Americans did not take prescription medication in 2010, while 80% of Americans 65 and older regularly use prescription medication. Among uninsured Americans, 13% went to an emergency room, 20% received free services and 30% received a discount on services.
