Lincoln Post Office may Close

The U.S. Postal Service is studying whether to continue operating the University Place Post Office. Postal Union President Tony Ridder says in his monthly newsletter that a decision has already been made to close the station at 48th and Leighton. Lincoln Postmaster Kerry Kowalski denies that, however, saying a public meeting will be held April 7th, and comments from the public will be gathered for 30 days after that. The lease on the UNI Place post office is one year from expiring, and Kowalski says it's being studied to determine whether it should be renewed. He added that traffic is down about 25% at the 48th and Leighton location over the past 5 years. Union President Tony Ridder said he's been told the station is scheduled for closing in Late June or July.
