Early Blizzard Costs Ranchers Thousands

SIOUX/DAWES COUNTY, NEBRASKA -- That early October blizzard in northwest Nebraska cost ranchers tens of thousands of dollars in lost cattle. More than 2,200 cattle died in the cold and snow in Sioux and Dawes counties. Some ranchers hadn't recovered from last year's wildfires, which damaged more than 900 miles of fence line and reduced the region's cattle population to less than 45% of its normal number.
