Design Time’s Taryn Vanderford is a farm girl from Pender, Nebraska. She attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln majoring in Broadcast Journalism. Taryn also played the saxophone in the Cornhusker Marching Band, where she met her husband, Jon Vanderford.
While in college, Taryn was a part-time announcer at KFRX. She graduated with highest distinction from UNL and worked as the evening and mid-day announcer on 96KX.
Taryn left 96KX when she married Jon and moved to Knoxville, Tennessee where Jon had a job as a television anchor/reporter for the ABC affiliate. In Knoxville, Taryn worked part-time at radio stations WIVK and WOKI. Her full-time job was at Scripps Productions. Here, Taryn served as a producer, writer and researcher on many shows including: “America’s Castles” on A&E, “Country at Home”, “Country Style” and “Restore America” on HGTV, and “Weekend Decorating” and “DIY Basics” on the DIY Network. For many years, Taryn traveled the country interviewing homeowners, gardeners and artists and telling their stories on national networks. Taryn and her team were pleased to win a Telly Award for their work on the HGTV show “Country Style.” Another highlight for Taryn included field producing a segment with her family for the TV special “Thanksgiving Across America” on the Food Network.
In 2002, Taryn’s son was born, and soon after Jon accepted a job as the evening news anchor for KOLN/KGIN TV. So, in early 2003, the family moved back to Nebraska. Meanwhile, Taryn continued to produce and write for Scripps Productions from her home office. In 2005, her daughter was born and Taryn took a job as an adjunct journalism professor at UNL. She served as an on-air host for some Nebraska educational tourism videos, and she continues to dabble in voice and on-air talent work.
Taryn enjoys spending time with her husband and children, playing the piano for church, taking pictures, traveling, watching college football, Jazzercising and of course decorating! She’s excited to talk with you about your home and design interests.
