Bill To Repeal Death Penalty Moves To Legislative Floor

LINCOLN -- For the 37th time in his long legislative career, Omaha Senator Ernie Chambers is working to do away with the death penalty. He'll have another chance to persuade his colleagues. The Legislature's Judiciary Committee has advanced the bill to the floor for full debate. There are 11 men on Nebraska's death row. The last execution was 1997 when Robert E. Williams died in the electric chair after confessing to three murders in 1977, two of which were in Lincoln.
