A new electric generating plant is one step closer to reality. The Gage County Board of Supervisors has approved a special use permit to allow a proposed $138 million wind farm that will straddle the Jefferson-Gage county line. The board unanimously approved the Steele Flats Wind Farm, one week after it was OK'd by the Jefferson County Board of Commissioners. Florida-based NextEra Energy Resources wants to build the plant. The 75 megawatt wind farm is expected to be operational by the end of the year. It will include 32 wind turbines in Jefferson County and 12 in Gage County.
